The Heart Behind TherapyOke

TherapyOke is a play on two powerful words:

Therapy—because my brother Glenn was a therapist who believed in the healing power of expression.

After the loss of our son at the age of 23, Glenn guided me through the immense grief and brought music and harmony back into my soul. We sang. Karaoke. Not at bars, but in living rooms. His in Maine. Mine in Washington. Whenever he was well enough to travel, we sang harmony and made music together—just the two of us, finding our way back to hope… one song at a time.

Glenn was a Navy Corpsman who served during Desert Storm, deployed to Kuwait where he provided care for the wounded—including injured civilians and enemy soldiers caught in the chaos of war. When he returned home, he became a vocal advocate for veteran wellness and helped launch one of the first mental health programs in Portland, Maine for reservists returning from the Gulf. He never stopped fighting for those who served.

He was also a gifted therapist, a lifelong learner, and a man who filled every space with warmth—through his music, his insight, and his unwavering integrity. During his eight-year battle with Gulf War Syndrome and Multiple Myeloma, we leaned into what comforted us most: singing. When you’re at your lowest, it can be hard to find your voice—but if you can get through one song, you might find the strength for another. And by the third? You start to feel human again.

This project is not clinical therapy. It’s a creative, heart-forward space built on connection. If you’re struggling, we encourage you to speak to a qualified medical professional. But if you just need a place to sing through it, this space is here for you.

This project is dedicated to my brother Glenn, I love you, Brubby. I miss you every day.
